This 1924 Sunbeam Model 6 is a very rare, very early (with dummy rim type brakes and beaded edge tyres)  piece of Sunbeam's well-known and very succesful Model, called "Long-Stroke".

The iconic 77 x 105.5 side-valve engine was first seen at the French Grand Prix of 1921. Although it was a side valve engine - because of its long stroke, Sunbeam had many successes regarding this Model (was in production for 17 years – the longest of any Sunbeam motorcycle). The 1922 TT was won by Alec Bennett on a Longstroke – the last side-valve to win a TT.

The 1924 Longstroke was based on the TT winning bike. It is fitted with high compression piston, special cams and light reciprocating parts. In the catalogue of 1924, Sunbeam advertised this Model as "The Speedman's Machine" -  "This model embodies the experience of  the Sunbeam designer and riders, whose successes in the T.T., Grand Prix and all the leading speed competitions are world renowned".

This Longstroke is a tidy older restauration, it is mechanically in a reliable condition - ready to ride. It is fitted with its original 3 speed gearbox, Bosch magneto, manual oil pump by Best & Lloyd, beautiful pan seat by Brooks. The primary chain case is cast aluminium, the forks are Druid pattern made under licence by Sunbeam. Its previous owner used it regularly on vintage runs in England. The Sunbeam is easy to handle, it is very light and of course the engine has plenty of power. It really is a lovely bike.
